THE CURRENT STATE OF THE FRESCOES

The frescoes at Rankoth Viharaya today lie in danger of imminent destruction and permanent erasure. The prudence and oversight of the monks at the Temple have so far ensured their survival. Yet while a vast majority of devotees and visitors know the true value of these historical paintings, a few who do not have chipped away at them.

Action must and should be taken to minimise damage, restore these frescoes, and preserve them for posterity by way of the latest technologies.
